Start Time: 10:00 am May 11, 2019 Paul Banks Elementary 1340 East End Road, Homer, AK
Do I need to be a "real" runner to participate?
No! This is a fun family friendly event! It is self-timed and a fundraiser to support our locals schools and Girls on the Run in Homer! You can walk or run! Push a stroller or wiggle your way to the finishline. We just ask no bikes and no doggies for course safety. :-)
What is included with my registration? Your registration includes access to the course, a race bib and the chance to get doused in color powder as you make your way from Paul Banks Elementary to West Homer Elementary. T-shirts will be available at the start and finish line for $15.00 until we run out. We will also have sunglasses available for purchase for one dollar!
Where do the proceeds for this event go?
Proceeds from the Homer 5K Color Celebration Run will be shared with our local elementary schools PTO/PTA's and Girls on the Run programs. The Homer Area PTA/PTOs help fund student field trips every year, along with artists in schools, after school activities, teacher and classroom needs and special requests. Any donation large or small makes a difference. We appreciate your support!
Is there a shuttle between West Homer Elementary and Paul Banks Elementary School after the run? We are sorry we aren't able to provide transportation from the end of the course back to the beginning. We ask that you plan ahead with another family to leave one car at the finish and leave another car at the school at the beginning. That will also help us manage parking between the limited parking available at each school.
Can I run with my dog?
For the safety of our runners and animal friends, no pets will be allowed on the course (even though we love them!).
How will I get the color powder on me?
As you run along the course, you will see "color chutes" - run through a chute and you will get color powder thrown all over you by our amazing volunteers! Wear clothing that you don't mind getting stained (even though it should wash out) and sunglasses for your eyes if you want! We will have sunglasses for sale at the start and face masks available to any runner who wants one.
Will I get my car interior dirty after the race?
Be prepared. We suggest bringing a couple towels and a change of clothes to keep your car clean,
Is the color powder safe?
The color powder has been purchased from a color powder manufacturer in Utah. It is made up of Corn starch and FD&C and/or D&C colors. As with anything, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our color station volunteers will not throw powder above the neck. Some runners choose to protect themselves with glasses, googles and face coverings (i.e. masks/bandanas).
Is the Homer 5k Color Celebration Run timed?
Our race is not a timed event. Take your time and get colorful!
What if I am pregnant?
That decision is between the runner and her doctor. Pregnant runners are advised to consult thier physician prior to participating in the Homer 5k Color Celebration Run.
What happens if there is bad weather?
It depends on the weather but we are committed to having our run! And we hear the rain makes the colors from the color powder more vibrant! Anticipate the run to happen - rain or shine! Homer, Alaska weather is variable and we cannot always count on a bright sunny day. Plus - a little rain will make for some fun pictures and lots of laughs!
